About
Meet Raquel
I help women regain their confidence and mindset to become more focused and motivated, so they are able to move to a life of increased success. Whether it’s their work or personal life, I believe in the strength and resilience of women and through my coaching, I help them harness that power!
Hello, I'm Raquel . . .
I came to the UK in 1988, and with over thirty years experience working in the corporate world supporting top senior executives of both medium and large multinational corporations in Manila and London, including Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Union Railways, Bank of Ireland, Trafalgar House Construction, Embassy of Japan, Capital Bank and Sycip, Gorres, Velayo & Co, I bring a wealth of knowledge and insights to my coaching practice.
I quit the corporate environment in 2013, at which point I took a few months to think through my next steps and I made the decision to take the self-employment path as a Virtual Assistant supporting coaches and small businesses. Alongside this, I joined Toastmasters International and qualified as a Competent Communicator and Competent Leader, where I got involved with the local chapter of Toastmaster International for four years, serving as VP for Membership and as an Assistant Area Director for Public Relations. Managing the promotion of the Toastmaster International Southeast District D91 during the Spring Conference in London gave me added skills and built my confidence in social media and further develop my tech skills and personal growth. Additionally, I became involved with the local TEDx events supporting young people in the South London area where I volunteered as the Registration and Events Manager for 3 consecutive years.
For the past 5 years, I’ve also been a supporter of the Filipino Women’s Association (FWA-UK) where I served as an executive board member / trustee. It is a charity organisation established to provide funding for education opportunities to children in the Philippines disadvantaged by poverty and disability, and to respond to the needs of the wider Filipino community in the UK, especially the elderly and the vulnerable, and to offer support to victims of natural calamities in the Philippines. During my time with the organisation, I served as Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman of the Publicity Committee and I was also part of the Outreach, Membership and the Annual Gala Fundraising Events Committee.
It was at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic that I did some deeper soul-searching, adjusted my mindset around what was happening, and thought about how I could turn those challenging times into something more positive and productive. After a few months of just getting through it, I decided to enrol in the Personal Performance Diploma with The Coaching Academy. I believe that through my past experiences, coaching found me at just the right time. I followed my instinct, and explored what else I could offer the world with my experience, skills and talent.
For me, coaching helped me understand myself at a more profound level. A key belief of mine is acknowledging my client’s values by applying active listening techniques, and allowing silence, for my client to think and reflect, whilst I remain non-judgemental, respectful and empathetic. My coaching style draws on my experience in business, networking, confidence building, travel and lifestyle. I believe that people will generally form better relationships with those they know, like and trust, and that communication is critical to one’s success.
As for my personal life, I have been married for over 28 years and have a lovely grown-up daughter and a naughty cat. Life has been as good as I could wish, with the support of my family. As I approach the later stages of my life, I originally thought I could just relax and enjoy life, however I realised what truly fulfils me is giving back. I knew I wanted to do something impactful, helpful and empowering for people, which is where coaching came in.
People see me as a creative, artistic, people person who thrives in social situations, is good at making others feel comfortable and valued in their presence. I have a City & Guilds qualification in Interior Design, I love arranging flowers, and I can say that I am a tech enthusiast! I enjoy travelling and exploring different countries, its culture and enjoy the local cuisine of the countries I visit. I am a keen gardener who doesn’t mind getting my hands dirty, and you can often find me in my sanctuary during the gardening season, where I draw inspiration from the beauty of nature and its lessons of patience and growth. Just as I nurture my garden, I’m committed to nurturing all my client’s potential, and supporting them bloom into the best version of themselves.
