Personality Profiling
Imagine if we were surrounded by same type of people who talks about same thing over and over again and agreeing with one another – “yes, I agree; yes, that’s fine, etc”. Don’t you think life can be boring if we were all the same? Ooh dear . . . glad we’re all different!
Having a mixture of personality types can be challenging to cope with, however we can struggle to understand why others act the way they do. That’s why learning to appreciate how other people think and behave is so important.
Personality profiling is an easy way to identify other people’s communication style.
DISC Personality Assessments for Coaching
The DiSC personality assessment is a great tool for coaches because it helps individuals identify their strengths, motivations, and how someone prefers to communicate. In each of these areas, coaches can match a person’s DISC Profiles to areas they may struggle to succeed.
The DISC Personality Assessment measures two distinct scales and identifies a person’s style based on four personality types:
- Dominance (D – Personality Type)
- Influence (I – Personality Type)
- Steadiness (S – Personality Type)
- Compliance (C – Personality Type)
A person’s DISC profile is typically a combination of these four letters, but many of us prefer to behave within one style more than the others. If you work within management, leadership or executive coaching and use DISC, I can help you more easily identify your blind spots. With this knowledge, I can help you adapt how you behave to behaviors that are more appropriate.
How Does DISC Profiling Impact Work?
You will complete an online profiling assessment which will produce a detailed report depicting your DISC type and a detailed characterisation of your personality profile. The report will also include graphs showing your personal blend and preferred communication style. I will interpret the results and feed them back to you in a 1:1 setting to ensure that you have a full and concise understanding of your personality assessment.
By taking a DISC Profiling test, you will be able to:
• raise your own self-awareness regarding personal strengths and developmental areas
• communicate with others more efficiently
• create stronger, more effective relationships with others
• know your motivators and greatest fears
• build a greater depth of trust with others
• understand your leadership style
• realise your personality goals
• learn your instinctive response to pressure
• recognise signs of and therefore avoid tension and potential conflict.
The History of DISC
DISC is an acronym that stands for the four main personality profiles described in the DISC model. DISC was first created by Dr William Marston in 1928. Dr William Moulton Marsten was a lawyer and a psychologist who contributed to the first ever polygraph test. He conducted research on human emotions and found that people illustrated their emotions using four behaviour types, Dominance, Inducement, Submission and Compliance.
Then in 1956, an industrial psychologist, Walter V Clarke, constructed an assessment which confirmed Marston’s theory of the DISC model, and he renamed the four behavioural types to Dominance (or drive, RED), Influence (or persuasive, YELLOW), Steadiness (or supportive (GREEN), Compliance (or correct, BLUE).
